What to Expect

Want to learn to sew but are uninspired by most beginner projects? No problem, we’ll cover the basics and then, with some help, you can take on that interesting and challenging sewing project. (Of course, if you want to make a beginner tote bag or pillowcase, I’m also happy to help with that.)

Here are some sample programs, but each program will be tailored to your individual goals:

  • Designed for an absolute beginner, this will teach you the basics. Learn how to:

    • use your sewing machine i.e., threading, sewing and trouble shooting;

    • choose sewing patterns or projects and fabrics;

    • lay out fabric and cut out patterns;

    • make simple pattern adjustments.

    I’ll also help you decide what tools you need to start sewing and where to source them.

    No sewing machine? No problem, I will bring one for you to use during instruction time.

    5 hours of instruction time $165

  • A program for those who used to sew or who have some sewing background and would like a refresh. We’ll cover:

    • how to trouble shoot sewing machine issues;

    • how to choose sewing patterns or projects and fabrics;

    • tips and tricks to make your sewing more efficient and enjoyable.

    We will assess your sewing tools and identify gaps. We can tackle some of those tricky sewing skills that may have held you back in the past.

    5 hours of instruction time.

    Fee: $165

  • For those who know the basics of sewing and want to take things to the next level. I can help you:

    • plan and tackle a challenging sewing project;

    • choose sewing projects and fabrics;

    • make critical alterations to fit commercial patterns;

    • learn basic pattern making and pattern hacking skills.

    At this level, you probably have a good idea of what you want to take on next.

    5 hours of instruction time.

  • You can also build a custom coaching program around specific sewing goals. For example,

    • Want to take on a challenging project: jeans, a tailored jacket, an evening dress?

    • Need specific help with fitting and pattern alterations?

    • Want to master a specific skill: zippers, buttonholes, collars, pattern matching?

    • Want help planning and creating your epic cosplay costume?

    • Planning on creating your own wedding dress? I can help you with pattern choice, creating a muslin, fitting, and fabric sourcing.

Want to create clothes that actually fit your body? I firmly believe that everybody deserves well fitting, beautiful clothes.

While many pattern companies offer size-inclusive patterns, even the most experienced sewist can struggle with fit. I can help you choose and alter patterns, enabling you to create the clothes you want and deserve.
